Ethics Statement



PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE


Compendium follows a ten-rule publication ethics framework that seeks to ensure the highest standards of intelectual integrity, honesty, and property rights in academic publishing:

1. General Principles

  • Compendium adheres to the core principles of publication ethics as articulated by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We are committed to ensuring fair, unbiased, and transparent peer review and editorial processes.

2. Author Responsibilities

  • Authors must submit only original work that has not been published elsewhere
  • All authors listed must have made significant contributions to the work
  • Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest
  • Data presented must be real and authentic
  • Authors must properly cite all relevant prior work
  • Authors must promptly notify the journal of any significant errors discovered after publication
  • All research involving human subjects must comply with relevant ethical guidelines and include appropriate approvals

3. Peer Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Reviewers must maintain confidentiality of manuscripts
  • Reviews should be conducted objectively
  • Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment
  • Reviewers should point out relevant published work that has not been cited
  • Reviewers should identify any potential ethical concerns in the research

4. Editorial Responsibilities

  • Editors ensure fair and unbiased peer review
  • Editors must declare any conflicts of interest in handling manuscripts
  • Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the academic record
  • Editors should work to prevent scientific misconduct
  • Editorial decisions should be based only on the merit and adequacy of submissions

5. Conflict of Interest Policy
All parties (authors, reviewers, and editors) must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including:

  • Financial interests
  • Personal relationships
  • Academic competition
  • Intellectual beliefs that might influence their objectivity

6. Procedures for Dealing with Unethical Behavior

  • Misconduct allegations will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly
  • Authors will be given opportunity to respond to allegations
  • Minor misconduct will be handled by editors directly
  • Serious misconduct may be reported to authors' institutions and funding bodies

7. Retraction and Correction Policy
The journal will publish:

  • Corrections for errors that affect the interpretation of the work
  • Retractions for seriously flawed work or proven misconduct
  • Editor's notes to alert readers to concerns about prior work

8. Anti-Plagiarism Policy and Writing Generated by Artificial Intelligence

  • All submissions will be analyzed for plagiarism and detection of AI-generated writing using specialized software
  • The use of AI tools must be limited to technical aspects of the text (such as data analysis, language review, or bibliography), and must be disclosed upon submission
  • Authors must properly acknowledge and cite all sources
  • Self-plagiarism (text recycling) must be disclosed to editors and correspond to less than 20% of the final article
  • Detected plagiarism will result in manuscript rejection and may be reported to institutions
  • Detected AI-generated writing will result in manuscript rejection and may be reported to institutions

9. Data Protection and Confidentiality

  • Personal data will be handled in accordance with relevant privacy laws
  • Confidential information obtained during peer review must not be used for personal advantage
  • Reviewer identities are protected in our double-blind peer review process

10. Post-Publication Discussions

  • Readers may submit substantive criticisms of published work
  • Authors will be given opportunity to respond to criticism
  • Appropriate corrections or retractions will be published when necessary

PRIVACY STATEMENT AND DATA PROTECTION

Personal data collected through manuscript submissions and peer review processes in Compendium are stored in our Open Journal System (OJS) database solely for journal operations. Our Editorial Board ensures user data protection through secure practices that maintain integrity and privacy. All information provided to Compendium is used exclusively for stated purposes in compliance with Open Access policies and will not be shared with third parties.
