Author Biography

José Bértolo, NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal

José Bértolo is a professor and researcher at FCSH-NOVA. He taught at ESAD-CR until 2025 and at FLUL from 2017-2018. His research focuses primarily on photography studies, film studies, and intermedial studies. He has organized conferences, programmed film series, and curated photography exhibitions. He is the author and editor of several essay collections, including Espectros do Cinema (Documenta, 2020) and Ichi-go Ichi-e: Portuguese Photographers in Japan (co-edited with Pedro Alfacinha, Documenta, 2025). As a photographer, he published his first book, Moraesu St., in 2024. https://www.josebertolo.com.
